One of my favorite CDs is filled with songs about heaven. I play it often, singing at the top of my lungs. I have singing-with-CD issues. That is a subject for a whole other blog post. For now, let's just suffice it to say that I can make my kids pretty crazy with that replay button.
So, one of the songs on that CD has a line that I particularly love. I've owned this music for years but before I first listened to this song I'd never thought about this truth. It had just never occurred to me.
"There (in heaven) we'll never need another heaven song."
Wow! Imagine that. Here, there are days when I NEED the encouragement of heaven. I need to think about heaven. I need to sing about it. Now I know that there is a ever-popular saying in Christian circles that a person can be so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good. I get that. I know what it means. But God told us about heaven for a reason.
You know, as Christians, we are going somewhere. Heaven is a real place. Curtis Hudson said when he was dying that you can take a lot on your trip if you know what's at the end. That's the truth. And I do know! Heaven is so real to me that you'd think I'd already been there.
1 Corinthians 2:9 says, "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." John 14:2 tells us, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."
The Bible tells us lots of things about heaven. I know there are gates of pearl and streets made of pure gold which will appear as the clearest of glass. I know that we will eat (feast!) and that we will know each other. I know that there will be no more night, no more sin, no more curse, and nothing that defileth. I know that there will be no more death, no more sorrow, and no more pain. I know that there will be no more tears after God has wiped them away. I know that heaven will be wonderful and full of joy and peace. And when I get there, I will know Who put me there!
But the most amazing thing about heaven is that I will be with Jesus! I can't wait to see Him and to touch His face and to feel His embrace. I can't wait to thank him for loving me. I want to know why He did. And does. And most of all, I want to know why He would suffer and die for me. I am part of His bride and will have the most intimate and amazing relationship with Him. If you saw me siting here now in my pjs, sobbing, unable to type for minutes between sentences, you would probably first laugh at me. And then you would come to realize how much I love Him and how real heaven is to me, even now before I've had the opportunity to see it with my own eyes.
As I journey through this land, singing as I go, Pointing souls to Calvary—to the crimson flow, Many arrows pierce my soul from without, within; But my Lord leads me on, through Him I will win.
Oh, I want to see Him, look upon His face, There to sing forever of His saving grace; On the streets of glory let me lift my voice, Cares all past, home at last, ever to rejoice!
But then, I'll no longer need this song.
